Dirt Lovers,

We are quickly approaching Saturday, June 24, the day we set out to complete the 2017 edition of The Westchester Trifecta. One day, three trails and a bunch of stuff in between. In total we’re looking at almost 100 miles of gravel, pavement, dirt and single track. It’s only three days after the Summer Solctice but there’s still a chance we’ll run out of daylight…

With three successful years in the bag the formula is as follows:

We’re taking the first train from Grand Central to Cold Spring. On the way back to the city we hit the single track at Blue Mountain, Graham Hills and Sprain Ridge Park.

If your goal is to do the whole ride, bring a mountain bike. It is NOT cross, road or hybrid friendly for 99.9% of cyclists. Also, bring tubes, bring parts, and bring tools to fix whatever you think might break this day. There will be one food stop and 3-4 additional quick fill stops but this is a self-supported ride and we need to keep moving to make it back before sunset. That said, bring your lights too.

We welcome anyone to come for the whole ride or just a portion of it. No matter what, it’s going to be a long and “fun” day. We are never far from a Metro North train station so there are numerous places to bail out or jump on along the route should your fitness or schedule call for it. Speaking of fitness…this is not a race, nor is it a beginner’s ride, we will do our best to keep a pace where the faster riders don’t get bored and the not as fast riders don’t get dropped. It’s a group ride where we want as many starters as possible to finish.

If we reach Manhattan by sunset the thirst is strong we’ll celebrate with a pint or two by the river.

But what if it rains? Well, that would suck, wouldn’t it? Especially since there’s no rain date for this ride. Only safety concerns will cancel this ride.
