How did anyone else do? Can't have been nice for the cat1's with the rain starting as you did.
Puncture on my first lap ruined my race, I think I finished 6th...so much for a top 5 towards cat1 upgrade _________________ Rolling on 29", 650b, 8.3" and 23mm |

As far as cat1's go...
I managed a 1st place (cat1 SS). Stephane had a great ride in his first cat1 SS race too. G finished mid-pack, 40-49, right G? Adam was 20ish in 30-39? I'm totally guessing at some of these...sorry.
Yea, conditions got worse and worse as the race went on. The first lap was pretty nice, but by lap 2 (and certainly lap 3), it was slick as a button out there due to the storm. As for myself, all I was trying to do was keep it upright! The course was a great mix of climbs, roots, and of course rocks. You had to be on your toes today, especially when it started to get slick.
Here are a couple pics I snapped pre and post race.

Despite the conditions, I had a blast. I may have dfled in my category (though would be surprised if there were 20ish in my group), but not much new there. Liked the shorter format and the course was laid out nicely. Stayed upright for the most part except for a ridiculous slow speed tip-over that probably pissed off a few guys behind me . |

Great race put on the WMBA! And congrats to Nate on his win! Are results or pics of timesheets posted anywhere?
I raced cat 2 35-39 and the course was in great shape, just a few slick roots for us. I was surprised by how many people were racing - it seems the early season races have more participation than the Sep / Oct races. Anyhow it's great to have maximum participation.
My race recap -
I didn't have a great start, but got by several people on the initial fireroad and entered Monster maybe like 6th or 7th place. I picked up a few spots passing people stopped at tech sections. I think I may have been in 3rd for a while, being closely chased (and cheered on ) by Marc R. A guy from another group did an endo into a rocky stream crossing somewhere in Stinger and Marc got around me. Then WMBA Pete came along and passed me in what looked like effortless fashion, I think towards the end of Stinger, maybe 2 Crew. I think I lost a bit of time on the descent out, but made up some time through the start-finish area and climbing Dickey Brook - I could see the guys ahead of me. My first lap time was 35:23 by my timer. I got into monster and was feeling good but could tell I was in anaerobic mode - riding hard instead of smooth. On the climbing portion before the big stacked log crossing of Monster my chain broke. It had come apart at the quicklink - half of it was still on the chain, the other no-where to be found. It was a Wipperman connex link, with the sort of heart-shaped hole. I had accidentally left my toolkit at home so my race was over.
