Diablo will be closed this week as well as this upcoming holiday weekend. The record-setting rainfall has caused substantial drainage problems near the base of the resort which has ultimately affected the safe operation of the gondola. Mountain Creek's experienced crew of managers have a plan in place to correct the drainage and make the necessary repairs to the adjacent ski trail, however its going to take some time. We understand this isn't the news you want to hear, but rest assured everything is being done to get back up and running as soon as possible.
It is important to note that there has not been any major damage to the gondola, the base area lodge or any of the other resort infrastructure. Lot's of cleanup, but everything is safe and sound.
On the brighter side, the ParkLogic crew has inspected the majority of the bike trails and we are very relieved to report that the network has held up extremely well. We certainly have some clean-up maintenance to do, but sensitive trails such as Alpine, Dominion, IndyCross, Breakout and most others have all weathered the storm with only minor run-off issues.
So that's the deal and hopefully everyone understands the magnitude of this challenge. Take a few days off the bike, enjoy the holiday weekend and we will keep you posted.
Thanks everyone...See you soon!

Diablo is also closed this weekend....
headed up to highland for the weekend....
| Quote: | Weather/Park Update: Closed 9/10 & 9/11
by Diablo Freeride Park on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 11:40am
Unfortunately the park will not be open this weekend as a result of another unbelievable deluge of rain the past few days. Within the past 48 hours the Vernon area has received 8-10+ inches of rain and has put the drainage rehabilitation project behind schedule. Due to its close proximity to the gondola, it is necessary for this project to be complete in order for the bike park to open.
Please understand that mountain crews are doing everything possible to get back up and running, but we are at the mercy of mother nature. Once again the bikepark trails have held-up very well through the storm, but the prohibiting factor is the underground river that runs adjacent & near the bottom of the gondola which has breached beyond its drainage system.
The weather pattern after today appears to be shifting with a much calmer and cooler forecast the next 7 days. Crews are working overtime and we are confident this project will be revamped & complete prior to next weekend. We have every intention on being OPEN next weekend (September 17th & 18th), so plan accordingly.
Sorry for the bad news... we know everyone is jones'n to get out there and ride! Unfortunately, there's not much we can do with not 1, but 3 historic rain events in just 3 weeks.
Stay tuned here for more info,
Thanks,
The Diablo Crew |
