Who's in for Stewart, tomorrow- Jae, Al, Matt, Emily, John, Steve, Noah... Nate?
Looks like it won't be raining during the race tomorrow, but with all this rain tonight it's likely to be a muddy mess.
Jerry at Peak hooked me up with a new XT cassette and chain today, and saved me the trouble of installing it by doing it on the spot, so all I've got to do is put a straight rotor on the rear along with a skinnier tire, and I'll be good to go.
Jae- do you have space to take the canopy up and back? I can drop it off to you tonight or on our way out in the AM. It doesn't fit in my trunk, and I'm not sure about fitting Lynn and Will in the car with the canopy in the front seat... _________________ "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city.

I'm wearing a dry suit and I've just finished adding outriggers to my bike. _________________ Rolling on 29", 650b, 8.3" and 23mm |

Might have to leave the canopy at home then. Since most of us are leaving right after our races anyway, it wouldn't be the end of the world... _________________ "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city.

I think for this one we can live without it. I know I got to bolt right after this one. Finish line to the car. _________________ Energy and persistence conquer all things.

I'm 15 miles south of Newburgh - we've still got light rain up here.
The course should be good fun, hopefully we'll get some nice big puddles
Good luck all, towels and lots of plastic bags for muddy kit recommended. |

Throw on those mud tires for sure- it's going to be a mess. I've swapped out tires for the best mud-shedders I've got.
See you all in the AM. _________________ "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city.

Great day
Hopefully no lasting injuries for those who fell. After a crappy LM I felt good all the way around today and finished with a 6th. _________________ Rolling on 29", 650b, 8.3" and 23mm |

Anyone hear from JB?
Who would have thought the trails would be so dry after all the rain drama?!
Congrats to everyone that made it out to the race.
Nice work John, I think Noah also got a good place...thinking back, can't seem to remember too many 30ish guys passing me except for him and about 4 (?) others...
Emily got 9th place, too.
Anyone got the Seabass update? Looked like he was cleaning up out there. |

JB had an altercation with a rock and crashed out on his first lap, hopefully no lasting damage. Al sucked going up the hill after the prologue and missed out on the 10 bucks. He clearly needs more training time _________________ Rolling on 29", 650b, 8.3" and 23mm |

Unfortunate race for me. Was feeling good off the start and actually motored ahead of a few folks, passing a couple more in the prologue. Caught up with Soulfly, who lost me on the road climb to the start, then about two miles into the lap, where the course gave you a straight-line over a small log or a cheater line to the right around it, I was planning out my line when ooof... all of a sudden I was OTB planting my shoulder and cheek into a big piece of embedded shale next to that log. Took me about a minute to get my breath back- I was gasping for air for a while- then I just sat down and took stock. Shoulder was deeply scraped but not bleeding, cheek bone took a hit but just two small scrapes. I sat down for a few minutes to regain composure as everyone passed me, and saw what did me in- a 4-5" tall rock about ten feet in front of the log. I'd been looking at the log and didn't see the rock. I was pinning it down through that section so I crashed with some good speed- lucky it wasn't worse.
Eventually, I restarted and latched onto the wheel of a guy who bought it on the log-over itself. Felt pretty good for the rest of the lap- the adrenalin was pumping and I was digging the new singletrack and the old familiar singletrack. Made most of the steep climbs through the rest of the course, which I was pleased with. But I DNF'd after finishing my first lap- with my history of shoulder injury, I didn't want to push things (especially given my trip to Park City and Moab this Wednesday-Monday!).
All in all, it was a great course and a fun race. I honestly couldn't believe how dry and dusty it was after all that rain. It was as if they didn't get any rain yesterday.
Seabass was only a bike-length off the lead at the top of that climb. So close, but maybe a better long-term strategy... give up the $10 for a bigger payoff at the end of the race? _________________ "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city.

PS- I'm sore all over now (shoulder, back, hip, cheek), and looking forward to a nice cocktail of Advil and Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Ale... _________________ "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city.

Nope. I even signed up for Facebook to see them, and STILL can't get at them until you've added me as a "friend." I can't believe I signed up for that...

Major props to Darkhorse for getting thse results up so fast. I wouldn't have waited around for an hour for the results if I had known they'd be posting results tonight. They're setting a new standard for the series.
Just woke up from a great nap. |

Wow, that was fast - spot on the dark horse guys, they are top notch.
I finished third in the end which I was very happy with. I didn't plan to go for the climb bonus but got a little carried away. I attacked just after the climb in the singletrack aiming to open a bit of a gap and got away from the field with the guy who won the climb and Scott, the eventual winner. We managed to drop the rest of the field, then I had a bit of a tree/bar/shoulder interface which left me with a less nasty version of JB's shoulder. I managed to stay on but the other two chaps dropped me shortly after, despite much encouragement from them.
I had a pretty good second lap, developed a flat tyre on the third but managed to hang on. Thanks for all the encouragement guys and mucho thanks for the sunscreen John - can I drop it off in your postbox? |

Nice work, all!
What is it about you and third place, Al?
Fantastic turnaround on results from Darkhorse. No excuses, they just got it done. Registration couldn't have been faster, the course was great-designed and marked well, the premes were fun for those who contested them, and everything went off without a hitch. Love racing up there.
Can't wait for the DH40. The only thing better than a 6.5 mile course + 1.5 mile prologue at Stewart is a 1.5 mile prologue + a 20 mile lap! _________________ "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city.
