I've never raced this one but I'm saving the DH40 as my long race in Stewart. Later in the year so far less likely to have the early season swamp conditions. _________________ Rolling on 29", 650b, 8.3" and 23mm |

One of my favorite races in recent memory. A nice dry course on a beautiful sunny day and 28 miles of (mostly) singletrack followed by refreshing pints of Long Trail, hot dogs and great company. What more could you ask for?
I had my ride setup with a 32X20, fully rigid and down to 19.4 pounds. She felt superfast and superfun through all those twisty Stewart trails. I had a decent result as well (compared to my first two races this year), coming in 37th out of 70 in the Cat 1 Open Men group.
Congrats to all my fellow NYC MTBers, I know we all raced our asses off!
Nice pics Nate!

Pretty awesome result, Ray. Nice work!
Lotta NYCMTB forum members up there in the top 20. Impressive results from all. _________________ "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city.

Thanks, Jamie. Being my first SS race, I had no idea how this would turn out, so I am very happy with the result.
I stayed with the lead pack in the prolog until mid-first lap, when 3 MTBNJ guys took me on the fire road. I got stuck behind a Bike 29 guy for the rest of the lap and never saw them again. Impressive results for MTBNJ: 4, 5, and 6.
About midway through the second lap I hear Nate on my wheel. I thought I had him! He and another guy took me on the second major hill and we all push it till the end. Amazing how close the times were for a 29-mile race. Pretty stiff competition all around.

Wonder if that was Doug (Omega 29 on this forum)? Love that he RODE to the race, 100 miles from CT!

That WAS him! I heard about Doug towing his bike to Hop Brook Dam, but this is even more insane. Amazing he had the legs to finish so strong. Going to shake that man's hand the next time I see him.
To be fair, we were trading back and forth most of the race. I just happened to be behind him when we lost sight of the MTBNJ guys. You kind of get focused on only who you can see in front of you and lose sight of the rest, even though they may be seconds away. So I was bummed we lost that pack and created our own. |

Well pedaled boys. Personally I'm looking for a late peak this for 2012.
Still a great day. The DH guys sure know how to run a smooth event. |
