| Quote: | MONTEREY, CA (BRAIN) Wednesday April 18 2012 10:18 AM MT—Shimano is set to unveil a new budget gravity group, Zee, on Thursday at the Sea Otter Classic. It’s priced low so freeride slope bikes can be accessibly priced but still have Shimano technology.
“Don’t let the low price fool you. It’s got everything Saint does: Ice Tech rotors, Shadow Plus rear derailleur, thick-walled single-ring crank, and it’s 10-speed,” said Dustin Brady, Shimano’s marketing manager.
The group also includes four-piston disc brakes with Servo-Wave levers and hubs for gravity bikes with 20-millimeter front axles and 12-millimeter rear axles in 135-, 142- and 150-millimeter configurations.

The Shadow Plus rear derailleur gets a Saint-specific urethane bump stopper between the derailleur and the dropout to reduce impact noise, while the new Saint disc brake is upgraded with finned brake pads, self-insulating ceramic pistons and three-layer rotor construction, |
Interesting move. Discuss. _________________ "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city.

"Budget" is a relative term in the bicycle lexicon. _________________ Rolling on 26" and 26" |

Discuss as in I'm disgusted they are still using silly center lock technology. _________________ urbansherpatravel.com |

Hone 2012?
I hope the crank weight is competitive. Saints are pricy.
I'm thinking about buying the 2012 XT brakes. _________________ '76 XL250

I love centerlock. Lighter than 6-bolt and WAY easier to remove a rotor. _________________ "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city.

Yeah, yeah. But the rotors are still fucking ugly, especially the new Saint ones and they don't work on my fancy King hubs. _________________ urbansherpatravel.com |

I dont like centerlock for no reason, but I also hate skinning my knuckles with stripped little torx bolts. _________________ '76 XL250

Throw that ikea sized tool away and use a socket wrench with a torx bit. _________________ urbansherpatravel.com |

I got one, but it's still pretty wonky.
There has to be a better design. _________________ '76 XL250

Yes, it's called centerlock.
The only downside of centerlock is having to use either Shimano hubs with horrible freehubs, or ridiculously expensive DT Swiss hubs... _________________ "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city.

Those are big downsides. I could never go back to crappy ratcheting like Shimano for technical riding (rocks).
Being unable to tighten the rotor on a trail ride always seemed bad too. Or remove the rotor totally if you destroy it like 6th did.
I would gladly give up a few grams to use standard M6 bolts to mount rotors, but I that would require new brake-mounting and/or hub size standards. _________________ '76 XL250
