Depression finally set in when I woke up this morning at 6:45. The Wilderness 101 was just 15 minutes away from the start of it's 2010 edition and I was not going to be racing it. If i'm not mistaken, it's only Lushizzle and Viking holding it down for nycmtb this year. I hope you guys are having a fun and safe ride. I can't wait to hear the race reports. Enjoy the post race food and keg action. Ohh yea, I hope you ponied up for the post race massage...totally worth it.

Quick update from the lounge chair with my beer. Felt good almost all day- awesome conditions. Finished in 8.45ish, not a clue what spot yet. I'm very happy with the time whatever place I finish. No sign of Luis yet, but I just saw Havoc cross the finish line and they were neck and neck last year.

Awesome stuff Daniel, congrats, you had great weather for it.

Tell Luis to make sure he actually pays the masseuse this time!

The day was perfect with a forecasted high of 79, and no rain on the days leading up to the race. I was a little worried on how the day would turn out. I haven't been training as intense as I had last year, and was still getting over a cold. Never the less, at 7am we headed out.

The first climb would give me an indication of what was to come. We started at a good pace, but when the heart rate starting going, I began to feel weak and sat on my granny gear to the top of the climb. By then, Daniel, Marco, and others were gone. I recovered on the decent, and the next 40 miles was pretty much all gravel road riding. I had missed the pelatons, and tagged on to a few pacelines into aid station 2. There I met with a Mike K. of Team Bulldog. We started the climb after station 2, and again couldn't get the heart rate going. I tried to do what I ever I could to not get off and walk on the climbs, but could never get the heart rate going above 154.

I jacked hammered down the rocky decents and began the second big climb where again I climb half way and walked the second half. On the second decent my hands began to feel it, but I kept a tight grip and let my bike do the work. Rolled into aid station 3, and began the single track climb. I rode it about 300 ft and walked the other 700. The remainder of the day was pretty much the same story. I'd rode half way up the climbs and walked the remaining. It wasn't until mile 80 where I began to feel a little better. All the major climbs where done with and I began to pick up a good amount of speed without getting the heart rate up. I was even able to pick off amount 6 riders and manage to make the last climb with little walking.

I rode across the finish line in 11 and half hours, which is an hour less than what I did last year, but still felt I could have done better. The combination of having a cold, lack of training and dieting made this one feel like a group ride rather than race. I'm looking forward to doing it next year, and going hard. On the up side, I did come in 11th place.......................................................................................................................................clydesdale. Very Happy

Hey wuz up. Thanks for the pic...yup, I recognized you on the climb. For some reason I thought you rode with a NJ team, anyway. I also saw GG at aid station 4. She was asking everyone how long it's been since you had passed. She was gunning for you. Wink Thanks again for the pic. See you at the next H2H.

I think they were going for a record in "number of misspelled names in race results" there. Wink

Seriously...how they misspelled Luis Rivera as "Jeff Schalk" is beyond me.

You guys are funny. Yes, I was wondering how they misspelled my name.

I'm 207lbs of lean muscle with some fat trimmings. I have to enjoy life a little. Smile
