nice writeup!

the gentleman pulling a sweet wheelie is riding on the sidewalk. $50 summons 7 years back made me stop doing that Smile

i've been 'talked to' by the boys in blue before... most of the time they just wanna look at the bike and tell me about the Mongoose they used to do 'huge jumps' on back in the day... : )

I show them respect and try not to come off like some punk kid causing trouble. never had any issue * knocks wood.

on the other hand, I've been pulled over twice within 4 blocks of my apt with my DH and DS bikes racked up on the back of my truck on a sunny Saturday morning... i chalk those up to sheer jealousy.

great write up Nate. glad to be a part of it and support the NYC scene.

Except for resistance training, I avoid any kind of indoor training. Up until the recent snow, there was no reason to stop mtn biking. In fact this is my favorite season to ride: no heat, insects, Lyme, etc.. As long as you wear the right clothes (polyester) you'll be fine.

See http://www.nyc-outdoors.blogspot.com/ for some of my winter riding so far. Yesterday did 10 mile x-c ski in Minnewaska S.P in the Gunks.

Technically NYPD doesn't have jurisdiction regarding riding bikes on sidewalks (at least, as of last summer they don't). That won't stop them from issuing a summons. Even though it's easily dismissed, it's a long trip to court unless you're already downtown.

Great writeup. I've been trying to ride rollers regularly with the roomates. Having someone else to wide with (even if you're going nowhere) makes all the difference.

Since December, 6 miles to work, 7 miles on my route home.

i'm guessing this is something new then. because i totally cooperated with the cops was nice and all and still got a summons and went to court and had to pay 50 no questions asked. plus i got stopped on flushing avenue deep brooklyn with 4 lanes of traffic and cars flying at 50mph.

but now i ride with a 9 milli and my timbs laced up. next time, things will get serious.
