Some of these construction ideas could help us with our high-usage and flood-precip related issues.

Did you hear that it sounds like the pump track at Blue is officially going ahead? _________________ Mojo is back |

The trails that have been built by the Forestry Commission in Scotland are designed to be all weather. I don't know what it's called but it looks like a hardpack gravel when it's laid - "stone dust" sounds like a pretty accurate description - I think there is a lot of machining used in the construction though as it's more involved than bench cutting and tamping. I looked at their website but couldn't see any obvious info on the details of the trail surfacing. That stuff is designed to be ridden in the wet as well as for drainage - although I suspect that the top surface wouldn't get as smooth as you might like for a pump track to be ridden with street / DJ tyres and high pressure. _________________ Mojo is back |

They stone pitch most of those trails- incredibly work-intensive but awesome and all-weather. It's only feasible with a paid crew- UK national lottery funds have paid for a lot of the Scotland trail building... _________________ "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city.

The surface is dolomite 10mm to dust, like a limestone base, it drains very well, dries quickly, offers substantial grip and looks good.
I love what Brothers Clark and Kent (their parents had a sense of humout i think..) are doing, one of the best in the business, and 2 very nice blokes! |
